The Honorable House of Representatives- HOR, has requested its Education Committee to seek alternative plans from the Ministry of Education, surrounding gala day celebrations in the Country.
The Press Bureau says, plenaryโs decision on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, followed a communication from Montserrado County District 1 Representative, Rugie Barry.
Representative Barry informed Plenary of a horrific accident which occurred on Friday, May 31, 2024, during the gala day festivity of Mount Gilead Foundation School along the Careysburg and Fendell highway.
According to her, during the parade involving students, parents, relatives, friends among others, a speeding truck with heap of fire coal enroot from Kakata, lost control and ran into the students and killed three persons and injured others whom are currently undergoing treatment at JFK hospital.
She claimed that pedestrians along major highways in the country, are exposed to serious dangers including lack of sidewalks and risked being hate by vehicles that may lost control.
The Montserrado County Lawmaker is also concerned about the high risk involved in putting students on the highway to drill.
Meanwhile, the Houseโ Education Committee, is expected to report to plenary within a period of one week.
