The Plenary of the House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Transport, Sirleaf Tyler, and the Managing Director of the National Transit Authority (NTA), Edmund Forh, to appear before the legislative body on Tuesday, 4 June.
This decision follows a communication from Montserrado County Electoral District #14 Representative, Kerkula Muka Kamara.
Representative Kamara raised concerns regarding the recent government-imposed restrictions on motorcyclists, highlighting the significant inconvenience these measures have caused for the citizens of Liberia.
He emphasized the necessity for Minister Tyler to provide detailed explanations on the current policies regulating transport activities in the country.
Additionally, Representative Kamara called for Mr. Forh to present the status of the NTAโs efforts in delivering affordable and accessible transport services to the Liberian populace.
The Plenaryโs decision was reached during the 5th day sitting of the 2nd quarter of the 1st session of the House of Representatives, held on Thursday, 30 May.
Meanwhile, Representative Dixon Wlawlee Seboe of Montserrado County Electoral District 16 has announced the launch of the Seboe Empowerment Foundation on Monday, 3 June, at the Municipal Hall in Central New Kru Town, commencing at 10:00 am.
The Seboe Empowerment Foundation aims to provide comprehensive support to the constituents of District 16, offering opportunities for education, economic empowerment, and enhanced safety measures. Key initiatives of the foundation include will: 1. Local and International Scholarships: The foundation will offer scholarships to students within the district, as well as opportunities for six students to enroll in the University of Lay Adventist of Kigali, Rwanda, fostering educational excellence and cross-cultural exchange.
2. Teacher Development Program: A special program will be introduced to facilitate teachers in acquiring Associate degrees (AA), enhancing their skills and qualifications to better serve the community.
3. Market Loan Scheme for Women: Recognizing the vital role of women in economic development, the foundation will launch a market loan scheme, initially benefiting the first fifty (50) women, to empower them economically and foster entrepreneurship.
4. Enhanced Safety Measures: In alignment with new safety regulations mandated by the Liberian National Police, the Seboe Empowerment foundation will provide motorcyclists with helmets and reflective jackets, ensuring compliance with safety standards and promoting road safety within the community.
