The Honorable House of Representatives- HOR, has extended its special session by an additional one week beginning Friday, September 20 to Thursday, September 27, 2024, respectively. The body concurred with the Liberian Senate for the extended extension.
According to the Senateโs certificate of extension, the recast budget and other instruments of time sensitivity, including integrity, are expected to be acted upon.
Recently, the Legislature recalled itself for three weeks, Thursday, August 19, 2024, till Thursday, September 19, 2024, to act upon several legislations of time sensitivity and integrity coupled with the submitted draft recast budget.
The reconvening of the legislature is pursuant to Article 32B of the Liberian Constitution, which states that โthe President shall, on his own initiative or upon receipt of a certificate signed by at least one fourth of the total membership of each house and proclamation, extend a regular session of the Legislature beyond the date for adjournment or called a special extraordinary session of that body to discuss or act upon matters of national emergencies and concerns. When the extension or call is at the request of the Legislature, the proclamation shall be issued not later than forty-eight hours after receipt of the certificate by the Presidentโ.
