The Plenary of the House of Representatives has mandated the Public Accounts & Expenditure Committee (PAC) to liaise with the General Auditing Commission (GAC) to conduct a system audit of the House of Representatives.
The decision was reached during the 12th Day Sitting of the 1st Quarter of the 2nd Session on Thursday, February 27, 2025, following a communication from Nimba County Electoral District #2 Representative, Hon. Nyan Flomo.
In his communication, Hon. Flomo emphasized the constitutional duty of the Legislature to promote transparency and accountability, citing Chapter 2, Article 5(c) of the 1986 Constitution of Liberia, which mandates the Republic to eliminate abuses of power, misuse of government resources, nepotism, and corruption.
He further referenced House Rule 44.1, which obligates lawmakers to lead by example in the fight against corruption.
It can be recalled that a previous effort to conduct an audit of the House of Representatives by the General Auditing Commission (GAC) was abruptly halted last year without explanation.
Hon. Flomo underscored that any further delay in resuming the audit would risk portraying the House as unwilling to lead the charge against corruption.
By taking this decisive step, the 55th Legislature reaffirms its commitment to good governance, financial accountability, and institutional integrity in line with national and international best practices.
