The Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) on Tuesday appeared before the House of Representativesโ€™ Committees on Elections & Inauguration and Good Governance to provide an update on the post-census process.

The meeting was intended to keep the Committees informed on developments following the conduct of the 2022 Liberia Population and Housing Census.

Chair of the Good Governance Committee, Hon. Doworh Gleekia, stated that the engagement was crucial in ensuring that the Statistics House delivers a comprehensive update, which will eventually lead to deliberations in plenary.

Providing insights into the census data, LISGIS Director General Richard Fatorma Ngafuan explained that the 2022 Liberia Population and Housing Census offers a detailed breakdown of population distribution across the countryโ€™s fifteen counties, along with their respective annual growth rates from 2008 to 2022.

This information is vital for analyzing demographic trends at the county level, monitoring population shifts, and evaluating the accuracy of census enumeration.

Director General Ngafuan further elaborated that by examining population figures alongside growth rates, LISGIS can determine which counties are experiencing rapid expansion, slower growth, or potential stagnation. This data is essential for policy formulation, development planning, and resource allocation.

According to the 2022 census, Liberiaโ€™s population stands at 5,250,187 (Five Million, Two Hundred Fifty Thousand, One Hundred Eighty-Seven), reflecting changes in demographic trends over the past decade.

The House Committees reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the census data serves as a reliable tool for national planning and governance.

The update from LISGIS sets the stage for further discussions and potential legislative actions aimed at leveraging census insights for national development.
