Monrovia- FC Aarau striker, Emmanuel Ernest, has been handed his first call-up to the Liberian national team.

Ernest is part of six invited oversea players by coach Mario Marinica for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Togo and Algeria.

The 23-year-old is thriving following his winter window move to FC Aarau from Cypriot club Cetinkaya TSK on a two-year deal.

Having scored three goals in six Swiss Challenge league games in Switzerland this season, the striker decision to move from Cyrus has already proven right.

There has been growing calls for the youngsters to be handed a chance at senior level of Lonestar due to the absence of William Jerbo and others who netted many goals of the national team in recent years.

Lonestar will engage Togo in Lome this Friday, September 6, 2024 before hosting Algeria at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium on the outskirt of Monrovia on 10, September, 2024.

Ernest, who was born in Liberia, has a half Nigerian background but has lived outside of African for many years. He scored twenty- nine goals and provided seven assists in more than 40 games for his old employers Cetinkaya TSK of Cyrus before crossing over to Switzerland in June of this year.

“It is good that Emmanuel Ernest accepted to represent the colors of Liberia. He is an additional force that will help us” Coach Marinica told journalists at a departure press conference on Tuesday.

“Despite we don’t have plenty of time to access him before the first game, we hope he live up to what he been doing in Europe” he continues.

Coach Marinica also handed call-up to Divine Teah who has been away from the national team since his move to Swedish side Hammarby IF early this year.
