The House of Representatives has summoned the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti; the Minister of State, Sylvester Grisby; and the Managing Director of the Roberts International Airport (RIA), Mr. James K. Mulbah.
These officials are to appear before the plenary on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, to explain why former President George M. Weah was denied access to both the old and new VIP Lounges at RIA.
Plenaryโs decision stems from a communication by Hon. Muka Kamara and Hon. Yekeh Kolubah of Montserrado County Electoral Districts 10 & 14 respectively. The communication requested the plenary to invite Madam Nyanti, Minister Grisby, and Mr. Mulbah to clarify the circumstances surrounding the refusal of former President Weah’s use of the Executive VIP Lounges.
“I write to request this August body to invite Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Foreign Affairs Minister; and Mr. James K. Mulbah, Managing Director of the Roberts International Airport, to speak to the denial of former President George M. Weah from using the Old and New VIP Executive Lounges of the Roberts International Airport (RIA) while departing the country,” stated Representative Kamara of Montserrado Electoral District 14.
Representative Kamara emphasized that such an incident could potentially undermine the Peace and Security in the Country.
Supporting this stance, Representative Kolubah highlighted that his side supported the change during the 2023 General and Presidential elections but insisted that the former President should not be disrespected.
Following a tense floor debate, the plenary agreed to summon the officials. Madam Nyanti, Minister Grisby, and Mr. Mulbah are expected to provide explanations before the full House next Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
The House of Representatives says It remains committed to maintaining respect for all former and current public figures and ensuring the peace and security of the nation.
