-Says they face harassment and intimidation
The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) is all ears to be aware of pressure confronting holders of tenure positions in government, as it has disclosed that the Supreme Court ruling on tenure positions has been left undone.
The LCC made the disclosure recently in its Documented Situation Report on President Boakai’s administration.
The LCC Documented Situation Report presented on Saturday, July 14, 2024, covers six months of the Boakai government and addressed five critical issues including the Bea Mountain protest, Tenure positions, War and Economic Crimes Court, Legislative Waste, Arbitrary killing of Citizens by security personnel and Corruption.
According to the LCC, since the inception of President Boakai’sgovernment, it has been monitoring and documenting happenings in the country’s governance process and has addressed itself to these issues affecting the country.
“Though, there have been mounting calls from the public and the media for the Liberia Council of Churches to speak on issues of National Concern. We do appreciate your concerns, but in everything, there is time and season under the face of the earth,” the Council of Churches said.
Speaking to issues on tenure positions, the LCC report stated that in the later part of former President Sirleaf’s Administration, the formation of tenure positions became the order of the day and those formations sought to strengthen the independence of institutions in carrying out their job without political interference and to uphold good governance and meets best international standards.
The report mentioned that tenure positions worldwide are a key governance issue, especially in the public policy school of thought and it provides a clear understanding of fairness and objectivity.
The Council of Churches indicated that since the inception of the Boakai administration, those occupying tenure positions have been constantly harassed and intimidated without any semblance of respect for the rule of law governing those positions.
It can be recalled that several past and present officials of government were replaced from their positions by President Boakai at various government institutions.
Accordingly, some of these officials filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court of Liberia for constitutional redress.
