The Liberia National Police (LNP) says it regrets to inform the public about an officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 3, 2024, at approximately 21:00 hrs at the Banjor Gas Station in Brewerville. The incident involved an off-duty police officer, identified as Inspector David S. Fayiah, and a civilian, Mr. Manoba Mohammed.
Preliminary reports indicate that a confrontation between Inspector Fayiah and Mr. Mohammed resulted in the discharge of the officer’s personal firearm. Mr. Mohammed sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby medical facility where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. Inspector David S. Fayiah is currently in custody at the Central CSD charge of quarters.
The LNP says it has commenced a thorough and transparent investigation to ascertain the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident. The investigation remains ongoing. “Our priority is to ensure that justice is served and that all actions are conducted in accordance with the law. We understand concerns amongst the public that incidents of this nature occur within the community and want to assure the public that the Liberia National Police is committed to upholding the highest standards of accountability and transparency.”
The LNP statement continues: “We are dedicated to maintaining the public trust and the confidence through diligent and impartial investigations. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. We urge the public to remain calm and to refrain from speculating about the incident while the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with relevant information regarding this incident is encouraged to come forward and assist with the investigation.
