Monrovia, Liberia – August 5, 2024 – The Liberia Crusaders for Peace (LCP), a non-profit organization recently opened a solemn book of condolences in honor of the late US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, recognizing her significant contributions to women’s rights and her advocacy for social justice. The event took place on August 5, 2024, and was led by Ambassador JuliEndee, the Chief Executive Officer of Crusader for Peace.

Ambassador Endee praised Congresswoman Jackson Lee for her remarkable work on behalf of women globally, noting that she was a recipient of Liberia’s Golden Image Award as a Global Champion for the Rule of Law. “Congresswoman Jackson Lee was a trailblazer who authored the Violence Against Women Act, which was signed into law for the first time in almost a decade,” she stated. “Her voice was influential in Washington, and she was dedicated to advocating for the rights of the marginalized.”

During the event, the Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, J. Fonati Koffi, delivered a heartfelt condolence speech. He recalled his admiration for Congresswoman Jackson Lee’s career in social justice, stating, “She was a model for peace and justice, empowering women both at home and abroad. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.”

Speaker Koffi extended his condolences to the family of the late Congresswoman, emphasizing the importance of unity and reconciliation in the face of loss. “We gather here today to bid farewell to her, and may her soul, along with all the dearly departed, rest in perfect peace,” he said.

Ambassador Endee also expressed her gratitude for Speaker Koffi’s leadership role in Liberia and his presence at the signing of the condolence book. “This is a historic moment for Liberia, as it marks the first time a Speaker has participated in such a program at the headquarters of Crusader for Peace,” she noted. “Reconciliation is key, and we are grateful for your commitment to fostering peace in our nation.”

The event brought together various dignitaries and representatives, including members of the Liberian government, the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism, the Liberian Women’s Secretariat, COWILL, the Office of the Senate Pro Tempore, and the Ministry of Gender. Together, they honored the legacy of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a steadfast advocate for justice and equality.

As attendees signed the book of condolences, they reflected on the profound impact Congresswoman Jackson Lee had on women’s rights and social justice, both in the United States and around the world. Her legacy will continue to inspire future leaders and advocates for change.
