Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Seaport Police (LSP) has successfully apprehended nine individuals involved in an alleged petroleum burglary in the tune of five hundred gallons and eighty-two empty containers at the Freeport of Monrovia.

The operation, led by the LSP Director Col. Othello Jean Pierre during a routine patrol, took place in the early hours of Monday, September 16, at about 12:45 AM at the BMC-AMOCO gate.

In a Press Release issued today said those arrested are two security personnel, a LSP officer, and a Fire Service officer assigned to the National Port Authority (NPA), while the seven suspects were civilians. The two officers have been suspended with immediate effect pending investigation.

Col. Othello Jean Pierre, Director of the Liberian Seaport Police, confirmed that while on patrol along with other LSP officers, intercepted the burglary at the SRIMEX storage, located in the National Port Authority. 

According to Col. Pierre nine people involved in this illegal operation were apprehended and detained at the Charge of Quarters at the National Port Authority.

The Release said preliminary investigations are currently being carried out by the Corporate Security Bureau at the NPA. Once completed, the suspects will be turned over to the Liberia National Police for further investigation.

The National Port Authority said it remains committed to upholding the integrity of the NPA and will continue to collaborate with other law enforcement to ensure that all activities within the port are secured and conducted lawfully.
