- Ahead of November Trial
By Jerromie S. Walters
Former Minister of Finance Samuel D. Tweah has turned himself in to authorities and had his bond accepted by Criminal Court “A.” This development follows his return to Liberia on Wednesday, September 25, at 9 A.M., after a month of being indicted. Tweah’s legal team had previously appealed for an expedited trial for him and four other former officials, which is now set to commence on November 12.
Upon his arrival in Monrovia, Tweah promptly appeared at Criminal Court “A” to face charges stemming from a corruption investigation conducted by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) in collaboration with the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA). The grand jury of Montserrado, convened at Criminal Court “A,” has reindicted Tweah along with four other former officials from President George Weah’s administration.
The individuals indicted include former Acting Justice Minister Samuel D. Tweah, former Minister of Finance Cllr. Nyanti Tuan, former Acting Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Stanley S. Ford, former Director General of Financial Intelligence D. Moses P. Cooper, former Financial Intelligence Comptroller Jefferson Karmoh, and former National Security Advisor to President Weah.
The jury’s decision to indict these six individuals came after a thorough review of the evidence presented, which indicated substantial grounds for prosecution. The case has now been assigned to Criminal Court “A,” which holds the legal authority to prosecute the alleged crimes.
