credentials needed to become impactful leaders in their home countries. Since 2011, SHE-CAN has helped empower 119 scholars from Rwanda, Liberia, Cambodia, and Guatemala to attend prestigious colleges in the United States. A total of 25 of them are from Liberia. Through financial support, leadership training, mentorship, and career development, SHE-CAN is preparing these scholars to become transformative leaders in their communities at home.

If you’re a young woman committed to improving the lives of others and shaping Liberia’s future, SHE-CAN is the opportunity for you. SHE-CAN scholars are not just students;

 they are the next generation of Liberian leaders. They return home after completing their studies to make a difference in their country, whether in politics, business, education, healthcare, or other fields.

SHE-CAN scholars all sign a pledge committing to SHE-CAN and their country that they will return home within one year of graduation and stay at least three years to make an impact in their communities. As a graduate at home in Liberia, you will build an impactful career, support your SHE-CAN sisters, and advance the lives of women and girls by working to foster the development of future Liberian female leaders. SHE-CAN Liberian scholars will together create an ever-expanding ripple effect of positive change.

SHE-CAN started recruiting scholars in Liberia in 2018. Our first four graduated in May and include Janet “CeCe” Kwenah, Lafayette College; Jennifer Maxwell, Muhlenberg College; Shennel Henries, University of

San Francisco; and Tarlee H. Dawn, Babson College. Three of the four are completing a year-long OPT job training experience and have pledged to return to Liberia in the spring of 2025 to start their change-agent careers. Janet “CeCe” Kwenah is currently attending Johns Hopkins University studying for a master’s degree and has pledged to return home within a year of completing that degree. SHE-CAN will support each other in starting her career at home to ensure she reaches her potential and helps Liberians, especially women, prosper.
