NIMBA COUNTY — Nimba County Senator Nyan Twayen, Jr. has accused Liberia Ex-president George M. Weah’s administration of stealing Five Billion United States Dollars from the country’s account.

Senator Twayen also accused the Weah’s past government of damaging ‘County Service Centers and eating the budget intended for the County Council to enable them to run its operations across the country. The Nimba County Senator has at the same time defended the ruling Unity Party that its governance can’t, within six years, fix the country; things that were damaged by the George M. Weah past government.

Senator Twayen admitted that the current Unity Party government of President Joseph Boakai made mistakes in the road construction process in some parts of the country, which led to the damaging of roads, but reassured that everything will be better in the coming year 2025. Ahead of the Mineral Development Agreement between the government of Liberia and ArcelorMittal Mining Company, the senator promised citizens of Nimba County and the mine-affected communities his full participation during the revision of the MDA.

Senator Twayen challenged that no one Nimba Lawmaker could develop the county for his pocket but rallied locals’ involvement in the development agenda to fast-track the growth of the county. He wants the local county administration of Nimba County to push forward and prioritize ‘Technical Vocational Training Institution’ to build the capacity of young people as a means of preparing them for future job challenges.

Speaking further, Senator Twayen said he has been faced with challenges since he entered the Liberian Senate over the past six months but has managed to overcome those constraints. He made these statements in a remark on Monday, September October 7, 2024, in Sanniquellie City, as part of his ongoing ‘Thanksgiving’ tour in the county.

On Friday, 4 October 2024, Nimba County Senator Nyan D. Twayen, Jr. embarked on his first official ‘Thank You’ visit to Nimba since his election during the 2024 Senatorial By-election in the County. The by-elections in Nimba County happened as a result of the vacancy caused by the then Senator Jeremiah Koung, who won on the ticket as Vice President to President Joseph Boakai.

Phase one of his appreciation tour in Nimba will cover electoral districts 1,2, 3, 4 & 8, which aimed at thanking the people of the county for the massive support that made him the winner. The appreciation is marked by joint thanksgivings and praises in selected areas, including Sokopa, Ganta, Garr Sanniquellie, Sehyi, Yarmein, Yekepa, Zor, Karnplay, Twah River, Lee Wehyi-Pea, Lao, Zahn and Gbehyi. It is expected to conclude on October 14, 2024, in Meinpea Mahn. Respectively.
