The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has proclaimed on behalf of the President of the Republic of Liberia, His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., declaring October 9, 2024, as World Post Day. This day is to be observed throughout the Republic as a working holiday. This proclamation is in alignment with the Universal Postal Union (UPU), which was established in 1874 to create a unified postal territory among countries for the reciprocal exchange of letters and postal items and to enhance postal services globally.
The theme for this year’s celebration of World Post Day is “150 Years of Enabling Communication and Empowering Peoples across the Nation.” The Government of Liberia, as a member of the Universal Postal Union, is committed to supporting and upholding all the rules and procedures established by this international body.
The proclamation emphasizes the importance of treating postal customers in every country with equal courtesy and respect, as well as implementing rules and procedures that facilitate the ease of use for both national and international customers of postal services.
In line with the global mission of the Universal Postal Union, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the agency responsible for postal services in Liberia, will be participating in the celebrations alongside other member countries of the UPU on October 9, 2024.
The proclamation calls upon relevant ministries, government agencies, and national and international organizations to collaborate with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in organizing and executing appropriate programs to make the observance of World Post Day meaningful in Liberia. This demonstrates Liberia’s commitment to improving postal services and supporting the objectives of the Universal Postal Union.
