-Uses Einstein’s Wisdom’ in Liberia’s Political Crisis

In what appears as a reflection on Liberia’s current challenges, the Political Leader of the opposition Alternative National Congress (ANC) Alexander B. Cummings recently cited a well-known adage attributed to Albert Einstein: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

This statement, channeled via his Facebook page Wednesday, October 16, 2024, arguably resonates deeply in the context of Liberia’s political landscape, particularly following the 2023 presidential election. Cummings, who actively participated in the election, has been silentfor months.

Political pundits suggest that his choice of quote is a subtle yet robust critique of the prevailing circumstances under the leadership of President Joseph Boakai. During his campaign, Boakai promised to restore hope and stability to a nation grappling with longstanding issues.

Cummings conceded defeat in a statement issued on Monday, 16 October 2023. However, this came with reservations, ahead of the National Elections Commission (NEC) finalizing the announcement of election results.

As head of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP)/Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Cummings entered the presidential 2023 race as one of two main rivals to former President George Weah.

However, he suffered a disappointing outcome with about 1.6% of the total votes in the 2023, presidential election, which was far less than the 7% he accumulated in the 2017, presidential election.
