The City of Marshall, which was once a territory under Montserrado County, is set to be a city of attraction, as Liberian leader, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, on Friday, October 25, 2024, initiated the construction of a 150M recreational park.
The President stated that the construction of a 150M is his act of demonstrating his love for the people and children of Liberia. Therefore, the park would be called “Kalawanda,” a derivative of the Kessi dialect, when interpreted, means “Love for the people.” The would-be park is expected to be situated at the by-mouth of the Farmington River and the Atlantic Ocean in Marshall City, Margibi County.
The adviser to the President on national infrastructure development, Joe Gene Mulba, intimated that the project is the way for the President to provide an opportunity for every Liberian child to have what most Liberians did not experience as a child growing up. “The President said he wants to give an opportunity to every child to experience what he did not experience as a child growing up.
There’s going to be a swing, park, merry-go-round and a lot of things for children just like desny-world in the USA.” Mulba stated He further provided that the park, which will cover seventy (70) acres of land, will be an eye opener for the tourism sector of Liberia, which will contain a convention center, villa, hotel, and harbor for boats.
“It will be a full-bloom park that will be jetted into the sea with hotels, villas, and convention centers. This will be a window to open our tourism sector in the country.” The adviser to the President on national infrastructure development continued by adding that the project will be formally open in December 2025, but initially, it will be accessible to children in December 2024 for the Christmas party. “By December, phase one of the project will be ready for the president to have a party with the children, and in December of 2025 will be the grand international opening of the project.”
He further disclosed that the project is a presidential project not sponsored by the government but by friends of the president who are residing in other parts of the world.
