-Responsive and Participatory Budgeting for Public Officials
The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has kicked off a five-day training program focusing on Gender Responsive and Participatory Budgeting (GRPB) to empower public officials with the necessary tools and knowledge to promote gender equity in resource planning and allocation.
Taking place from November 18 to November 22, 2024, in Monrovia, the training aims to bring together personnel from Gender and Social Inclusion Units (GSIUs) and various divisions within government spending entities. Sessions are scheduled to start daily at 8:30 a.m.
Part of the Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP), this initiative falls under Component 4 and is designed to enhance participants’ capacity in gender-based analysis (GBA) and the fair evaluation of resources, encompassing financial investments, time, and labor. The training also seeks to embed gender considerations into government policies, programs, and plans, ensuring that public budgets cater to the needs of all genders equitably.
The primary goal of this project is to bridge knowledge gaps within GSIUs and participating entities while fostering a more inclusive governance framework. By empowering public officials, this training represents a significant stride towards achieving a gender-equal distribution of resources and furthering Liberia’s commitment to gender equality and empowerment.
The GRPB training signifies a pivotal milestone in Liberia’s journey towards gender parity. By equipping key government personnel with the tools to craft and implement gender-sensitive budgets, the Ministry of Gender is ensuring that public resources are leveraged to create opportunities and narrow disparities.
Following the comprehensive training program, participants will be tasked with spearheading transformative changes to embed gender equality at the core of Liberia’s development agenda. This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to constructing a more inclusive, fair, and sustainable future for all Liberians.
The Liberia Women Empowerment Project, a $44.6 million World Bank-funded initiative, focuses on empowering women and girls in six counties across Liberia, advancing gender equality. These counties include Montserrado, Bomi, Cape Mount, Gbarpolu, Grand Gedeh, and Rivercess, respectively.
