– Civil Society Leader Calls for Unity and Visionary Leadership in Liberia

[Monrovia, Liberia –  In a powerful statement released recently, Madam Loretta Althea Pope Kai, President of the Council of Civil Society Organization of Liberia, stressed the urgent need for wise and unifying leadership in the face of the nation’s deep-seated divisions. Citing Liberia’s history of strife, Madam Pope Kai emphasized that the current challenges demand a leader who prioritizes reconciliation, good governance, and the needs of all Liberians.

“Our nation stands at a crossroads,” stated Madam Pope Kai. “The divisions among our people, reflected in our politics, threaten to undermine our hard-won peace and hinder our progress. Now, more than ever, we need a President who governs with wisdom, foresight, and an unwavering commitment to the common good.”

Madam Pope Kai stressed that true leadership requires more than just occupying the presidency.  It demands a deep understanding of Liberia’s complex history and a willingness to address the root causes of division and conflict. 

“We need a leader who acknowledges past injustices and works tirelessly to heal the wounds of the past,” she said.  “Reconciliation, respect for human rights, and upholding the rule of law are not just lofty ideals; they are the very foundations upon which a just and unified Liberia must be built.”

Furthermore, Madam Pope Kai emphasized the importance of transparent and accountable governance.  She called for the strengthening of institutions,  stating that earning back the trust and confidence of the Liberian people is paramount.

“Good governance, transparency, and integrity are not optional,” she asserted. “They are essential ingredients for sustainable development and creating a nation where all citizens have the opportunity to thrive.”
