– A New Era of Cooperation between Morocco and Liberia

Layonde, Morocco: In a significant diplomatic development, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, and her Moroccan counterpart, H.E. Nasser Bourita, signed a series of bilateral agreements on Friday, marking a pivotal moment in the strengthening partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Liberia. The signing ceremony was accompanied by the issuance of a Joint Communiqué, which highlighted the shared commitment of both nations to foster mutual development and cooperation.
During the event, Foreign Minister Nyanti expressed her profound gratitude for the instrumental role played by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in advancing the Third Joint Commission between Liberia and Morocco. This commission is set to enhance cooperation in critical sectors such as technical assistance, healthcare improvements, agriculture and agribusiness, human resource development, and the promotion of good governance.
Minister Nyanti emphasized Morocco’s dedication to providing scholarships and vocational training opportunities for Liberian students, stating that this initiative is fundamental for sustainable development in Liberia. She commended King Mohammed VI for his steadfast support in strengthening the bilateral relationship, noting that the opening of the Moroccan Embassy in Liberia symbolizes a renewed commitment to friendship and mutual respect.
In his address, H.E. Nasser Bourita praised the alignment of developmental goals between the two nations and stressed the importance of exploring new avenues for economic growth and collaboration. He reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to innovative partnerships and sustainable investments that could transform the economic landscapes of both countries while benefiting the broader Mano River Union region.
Bourita also pledged Morocco’s unwavering support for Liberia’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term, reflecting a shared vision for enhanced international engagement.
Both ministers expressed admiration for the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Liberian President H.E. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. They recognized that their shared vision has cultivated deeper ties of fraternity and cooperation, reaffirming their dedication to promoting peace, sustainable development, and economic growth through enhanced bilateral relations.
The Joint Communiqué issued after the ceremony outlined a comprehensive vision for developing trade and investment between the two countries. It emphasized the aspiration to establish a robust economic partnership built on international cooperation mechanisms and mutual benefits, including plans to facilitate collaboration between the Port of Monrovia and the Port of Tangiers in Morocco.
Moreover, the communiqué reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to diversify their collaborative efforts to include emerging sectors with high growth potential. The ministers agreed to continue their close collaboration to strengthen bilateral relations and promote mutual prosperity.
This historic event marks another milestone in the enduring partnership between Morocco and Liberia, underscoring their collective determination to forge a future defined by shared goals, mutual respect, and innovative development strategies. The 15 bilateral agreements signed during this ceremony stand as a testament to the strong ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Liberia, setting the stage for a brighter and more prosperous future for both nations. Notably, Morocco’s reopening of its embassy in Monrovia in 2024 has further solidified the connections between the two countries.
