NIMBA COUNTY โ The Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Nimba County has disposed of a huge quantity of confiscated Frozen fish.
Speaking at the disposal site along the Nengbein highway, Billy Flahn, Senior Commerce Inspector for Nimba said the goods were confiscated from the West African Enterprise Inc. in the Congo Community in Ganta City.
Flahn said over 50 cartoons of expired frozen fish were confiscated from the cold storage and put the value at a little over fifteen thousand United States Dollars.
The Nimba Senior Commerce Inspector added that he will ensure that the market is free from expired and non-consumable goods.
He has at the same time called on the public to always report any expired or non-consumable goods they will see in shops or stores across the county, adding that he and his inspectors are not everywhere at the same time.
Billy asserted that collaborating with his office to report expired goods, will help keep the citizens healthy from diseases.
The Nimba County Senior Commerce Inspector disclosed that the disposal brings to two from the same West African Enterprise Inc. in Ganta as fines have been imposed to be paid in the government account through the Liberia Revenue Authority.
He promised never to rest until the market space in Nimba is free from expired and unwholesome products.
“If it will cause me to hire a motorcycle or rent a car just to get to all parts of Nimba and carry out an inspection, I will do it”.
Talking about challenges, he outlined that one of his major impediments is the lack of a vehicle to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry office in Nimba to help facilitate their smooth movement across the country.
Flahn indicated that when given a vehicle, it will ease the cost of transportation as he will be more empowered to carry out vigorous and robust inspections without fear or favor.
The Ministry of Commerce & Industry is responsible for the growth and development of Liberia’s economy and international trade.
