The House of Representatives Joint Committee on Concessions & Investment, which was set up to conduct a comprehensive review of all concession agreements across the country, has slammed Bao Chico Mining Companyโs management with contempt for impeding legislative functions.
The company was scheduled to appear before the committee for a public hearing last Friday, March 22, 2025. However, the committee was met with an excuse letter from Bao Chico, which the committee has described as a โflimsy excuse.โ The letter failed to provide a valid reason for the company’s absence and instead requested a postponement of the hearing by one month.
Notably, the letter lacked a clear name of the signatory, and only the position of “General Manager” was mentioned, further raising concerns regarding the companyโs lack of transparency.
In response, the Joint Committee on Investment has expressed its disappointment, stating that Bao Chico Mining Companyโs failure to appear before the committee was an act of disrespect and a deliberate attempt to undermine the legislative process.
The committee has demanded that the company appear with its legal counsel on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, to show cause why they should not be held in contempt for impeding the legislative function.
The House of Representatives Joint Committee remains committed to its mission of ensuring transparency and accountability in all concession agreements and will take necessary actions to ensure all entities, including Bao Chico, comply with their obligations.
