Nimba County, Liberia – A somber mood has engulfed the political landscape of Nimba County following the tragic deaths of two young campaigners in a fatal motorbike accident late Tuesday night. The victims, Melvin Karl and Rita Dolo, were members of the Nimba Project 2025, a political movement led by former Representative and senatorial candidate Cllr. Garrison Doldeh Yealue, Jr.
The fatal crash occurred on the evening of April 9, 2025, near Kpatua in Nimba County, as the activists were traveling to Districts 5 and 6 for campaign engagements ahead of the April 22 senatorial by-election. According to an official statement from the movement, Melvin Karl, the rider and a longtime supporter of the Doldeh Movement since 2011, lost control of the motorcycle, leading to a devastating crash that claimed both lives.
Rita Dolo, a passionate advocate for youth and first-time voter mobilization, succumbed to her injuries shortly after the accident. In honor of the deceased, the movement suspended all campaign activities indefinitely, declaring a period of mourning. Leadership has pledged to support the bereaved families in organizing befitting burials for the fallen activists.
