-For Supporting Rep. Kogar’s Senatorial Bid

Monrovia, Liberia – As Nimba County’s senatorial by-elections unfold, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) leadership has taken a firm stance against partisans backing Representative Samuel Kogar, the Unity Party-aligned candidate implicated in the controversial removal of Liberia’s elected Speaker of the House—a move the CDC condemns as unconstitutional and politically motivated.
“We cannot in good conscience support individuals who collaborated in eroding our democracy,” the party declared in a statement, emphasizing that Kogar’s actions “stained the integrity of the National Legislature.”
In a assertive move, the CDC has temporarily suspended several members for violating party discipline, including: Sam Kpahn, Bill Wonta, Anita Roberts, Josiah Gbusseh, George Kanwie, Magnus Niah and Thomas Q. Suah.
Citing the CDC Constitution (Part II, Chapter I, Rule 14), the party has mandated these individuals to appear before the Grievance and Ethics Committee —a step framed not as punishment, but as an opportunity for accountability and reconciliation.
Meanwhile, the former ring party reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to the county’s development while urging discipline among its ranks. The party, which has long championed Nimba’s progress through infrastructure, education, and social services, now faces internal challenges as some members defy official directives by supporting a rival candidate accused of undermining Liberia’s democracy.
The CDC insists that its call for solidarity behind its preferred candidate is not about division, but about resisting what it describes as “regressive elements”* threatening Liberia’s democratic stability. The party’s leadership has urged supporters to remain disciplined, warning that internal fractures could weaken its broader mission.
Despite the internal tensions, the CDC remains buoyed by grassroots enthusiasm. The party celebrated a massive turnout during its recent dues payment launch in Monrovia, interpreting it as a sign of enduring support.
Looking ahead, the CDC has announced an ambitious nationwide mobilization campaign, targeting all 15 counties to solidify its base ahead of the 2029 elections. “Liberia’s beacon of hope remains strong,” the party asserted, vowing to transform challenges into stepping stones for national renewal.
