– As STAND Declares July 17 As “THE DAY OF THE PEOPLE”

In a move reflecting the growing frustration and urgent call for change among Liberians, the organization Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) has officially designated July 17, 2025, as “THE DAY OF THE PEOPLE”— a day of massive, peaceful protest across Liberia under the rallying cry “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”

A Response to National Crisis

This landmark announcement emerges amidst escalating national despair caused by worsening economic hardship, unchecked corruption, lawlessness, police brutality, and a collapsing healthcare system. Citizens from all sectors— including students, market women, religious leaders, civil servants, health workers, farmers, and transport operators— converged at STAND’s headquarters in Congo Town to present a formal resolution demanding urgent democratic reforms.

The People’s Resolution: A Call to Action

The resolution, known as the “WE THE PEOPLE RESOLUTION,” is a clear mandate for action. It underscores the collective voice of Liberians united in their demand for justice, dignity, and a better future. The resolution calls for the organization of a nonviolent, nationwide uprising to challenge the status quo and push for vital reforms.

Leadership and Mobilization

Responding to this call, STAND’s Chairman Mulbah K. Morlu accepted the responsibility to lead this historic movement. Without hesitation, Morlu committed to mobilize citizens across every town, city, district, and village in Liberia. He vows that no fewer than 30,000 Liberians will peacefully take to the streets on July 17, 2025, symbolizing a united front under the banner: “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”

 A Movement for Real Change

Chairman Morlu announced an immediate nationwide mobilization strategy aimed at engaging communities county by county. This movement is not merely a protest but a collective effort to reclaim democracy, reduce the cost of living, restore dignity to public service, and address the healthcare crisis that has claimed countless lives of the poor.

Key Demands of the People

The resolution articulates ten critical demands, reflecting the depth of public grievances:

1. Economic Relief: A living wage of at least US$500 for all civil servants.

2.Healthcare Overhaul: Comprehensive reform to prevent preventable deaths.

3. Justice for Motorbike and Kehkeh Operators: Reversal of unjust restrictions.

4. Civil Service Fairness: End of politically-motivated dismissals.

5. Protecting Democratic Tenure: Reversal of actions undermining tenure security.

6. Legislative Independence: Restoration following political interference.

7. Police Accountability: Dismissal of police officials involved in violence, investigation into abuses.

8. Protection of Rights: Fair compensation for forced evictions.

9. Anti-Corruption Measures: Prosecution of corrupt officials and review of concession agreements.

10. Community Rights: Transparency and benefits for communities affected by multinational exploitation.

 A Day of Reawakening

On July 17, 2025, Liberians will come together to stand against injustice, speak truth to power, and rise as one people for a better Liberia. The protest aims to be a peaceful demonstration of civic resolve—a “Day of the People” to ignite national reawakening and civic renewal.

A Historic Moment

This declaration marks a pivotal chapter in Liberia’s ongoing struggle for justice, accountability, and democratic governance. It signals a collective refusal to accept suffering and a firm commitment to demanding meaningful change.

As the nation prepares for this unprecedented mobilization, the message is clear: Liberia’s future depends on its people’s unity, resilience, and unwavering resolve to build a nation rooted in justice, dignity, and hope.
