-Following Supreme Court Ruling

Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberian government has called on lawmakers to set aside political divisions and refocus on national development following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the House of Representatives leadership crisis.

At the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, Information Minister Jerolimek Matthew Piah emphasized that the prolonged dispute threatens Liberia’s progress and erodes public trust in democracy. “This internal dispute has the potential to undermine the progress we’re making in national development and governance,” Piah warned.

While reaffirming the government’s respect for the separation of powers, Piah urged legislators to adhere to the Supreme Court’s decision and work toward a peaceful resolution. He highlighted ongoing engagement with key stakeholders, including the Traditional Council, to stimulate dialogue.

Piah stressed that lawmakers must prioritize national interest over political or personal agendas, urging a swift return to legislative duties. “The road to national recovery requires all hands on deck. Their constitutional oath demands service above self.”

Furthermore, the government commended legislators who have already resumed their responsibilities and expressed hope that the House of Representatives will soon reunite to advance the ARREST Agenda for inclusive development.
