…As he’s set to be supported by nine political parties in October

As we gradually approach the October 2023 general elections, the wind of hope seems to be blowing in the direction of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), as its standard bearer, President George Weah, is certain about a resounding victory.

The President’s confidence was prompted by the admittance of six political parties into the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), which poised with the singular goal of ensuring his reelection comes October.

“Together, we will constitute a nine-member strong block, with the singular purpose of bettering the lives of the Liberian people, I need not overemphasize how mighty that is, and I predict that the grand coalition will be an indomitable force”, he said.

Six parties, including, the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), and the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), were officially admitted into the CDC, at a ceremony held late Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the headquarters of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) in Paynesville.

In his official response to the declaration agreement, President George Weah, described the admittance of the various parties as a significant mark for the CDC and the country at large, that’s capable of providing him the needed results in October, as he formally welcomed them on board.

Referencing scores of his major tangibles over the last six years, President Weah believes it will set the pace for a new and second term of his administration, and in order to complete what they have started.

“The CDC is a part of the masses, and it has always been so from the time of its establishment, it is a grass-roots movement that embodies the hope of the ordinary people, for more than a decade and after the formation of the party, while in opposition, we championed the cause of the downtrodden, now as a ruling party, we have tailored policies and development programs to specifically focus on improving the lives of the poor”, he said.

He continued, “Our combined efforts onward, will be needed to achieve this, you have made no mistake, the CDC presents the path to sustainable development, we must ensure that the momentum for more development continues, ladies and gentlemen, what you did today show your seriousness of your own country, shows the protection of your own country, shows the peace of your country, let’s go together so we can move Liberia forward”

He believes the CDC is the biggest political movement in the country because they are the Liberian people.

The President expressed overwhelming excitement about the political parties’ decision to collaborate with the CDC and alluded that said action speaks to the fact that the CDC’s vision concurs with theirs.

With such a decision by the six parties, the CDC standard bearer articulated that the parties honored a patriotic duty to nationhood, therefore he assured to make the various parties as comfortable as possible in their new home.

As a party formed to promote the interest of Liberians, President Weah described the joining of the new parties to the CDC as a fundamental pillar of the pro-poor agenda.

Following the official admittance of six political parties to the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), President George Weah, amplified his genuine commitment to Liberians, as he vowed to deliver more deliverables if he’s entrusted with another term.

Moreover, he disclosed the party’s willingness to accept additional parties to the coalition, as he believes with a union of different parties, presents a different perspective of Liberia’s body politics.

“I want to thank you for the confidence reposed in me, and as I have always stated, I will not make you shame”, he vowed.

Earlier at the occasion, the declaration agreement was signed by Chairpersons and political leaders of the various parties, while President George Weah signed on behalf of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

Upon exhausting said process, the various parties were presented to the President by the Secretary General of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Jefferson T. Koijee.

“Mr. President, I’m here to present to you the duly admitted six political parties that have come to join the Coalition”, he presented the parties.

He sees it as a demonstration that the people are pleased with the president’s governance and are they are willing to allow him to lead in the next six years.

“Moving forward, we are considered as one”, Koijee noted as he applauded the various parties for considering the president as the favorable alternative.

Accordingly, political leaders and chairs of the various parties were berated officially as full members of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

In an official statement on behalf of the six political parties, the Political Leader of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE) said that their step is in realizing the fact that in his next term, the President will need all of the resources to continue his developmental agenda.

As such, they saw the need to collaborate with the CDC, as he guaranteed that they will remain committed to his reelection through a one-round victory.

He further attributed their decision to join the CDC, to what the president has done over the last six years.

According to him, the decision was not prompted by heads of the party, but by members of their respective parties.

“We are here legitimately and we want to assure the CDC that now with our joining, we are now in one accord, and we will continue to push your agenda and victory for you is certain “, MOVEE’s political leader Ambassador D. Maxwell Saah Kemayah stated.

He believes the president is prepared to lead the country in the next six years, as such, their commitment is assured.

He admonished his supporters to ensure the president’s reelection, something the party and all other parties of the collaboration are committed to.

From his end, the politics of the People’s Liberation Party described the occasion as a historic moment in Liberia’s political history.

According to him, over the last few months, several consultations were held with heads and members of the various parties, to support the President.

With that, he disclosed that the various parties have resolved to support the presidential bid of the CDC standard bearer l comes October 2023. “You can rest assured that you will be re-elected comes 2023”, he assured, as he guaranteed the PLP’s commitment to the CDC and President George Weah in the pending elections.

The six opposition political parties, including the  People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Union of Liberian Democrats (ULD), United People’s Party (UPP), Redemption Democratic Congress (RDC), Change Democratic Action (CDA), and the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), signed the Resolution of March 11, 2023, to inform the President, and the Liberian people, about their collective decision to officially sign the Framework Document and join the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) on April 8, 2023, to support H. E. President George Manneh Weah for his second term bid.

These parties are strongly convinced that President George Manneh Weah remains the only viable and suitable candidate among the rest who has what it takes to move the country forward and they have vowed to ensure the President gets re-elected come 2023.
