– As She Endorses JNB

Over the weekend, the Opposition Movement for One Liberia (MOL) officially endorsed the presidential bid of Unity Party standard bearer Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai and Nimba Senator Jeremiah Koung in the upcoming October 10 elections.

The program, which was held at the MOL Party Headquarters in Congo Town on Friday, May 26, 2023, was graced by several members of the opposition community, including Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonblee Kangar-Lawrence and Gbarpolu County Senator Gboto Kanneh.

Also in attendance were Bong County Senator Prince K. Moyee and Dr. Henry Tokpah, among others.

Officially pronouncing what she described as “Decision 2023,” Movement for One Liberia (MOL) political leader Madam MacDella Cooper said in her endorsement statement that they have decided to willingly support the presidential bid of Boakai-Koung Ticket because they need a new and better Liberia.

According to Madam Cooper, unless Liberians collectively work to change the current governance structure that they have in place, the country will never be able to create real change.

“With that said, we are here to announce to the nation that we, the Movement for One Liberia Political Party, have decided to join forces with the Liberty Party, the MDR Party, and the Unity Party to endorse Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s candidacy for the presidency of the Republic of Liberia. Let me ask the question again: how do we, the people, create real change in the nation? Let’s make Amb. Boakai the next president of the republic of Liberia,” Madam Cooper lamented.

She said that they believe that Amb. Boakai has heard the cry of the Liberian people and will not abandon their struggle; instead, he, together with the strong forces behind him, will seek out solutions to the citizens problems and change the failed governance structure.

Giving justification and reason for her party’s endorsement of the Amb. Boakai-Koung ticket, she noted that the reason is clear and sample because, over the years, the majority of those who rose to positions of power through elections and appointments have not put the country first. Instead, they put themselves first.

“I know that you have been told over and over, time after time, that nothing can change about the current situation in Liberia. You have been told repeatedly that there is no need to try to change anything. They say, Just grab your own and go when you get any opportunity.

Ask yourself, “If they are right, then what was the point of independence?” Madam Cooper stated.

She explained that the people own the power, but the collective power of the people is much greater than that of those in positions of power under the constitution because those in positions of power are caretakers of the people’s power and are not the owners as many think.

Madam Cooper further told Liberians that the time for real change could not be more urgent than now because the current governance structure in place is a failure and betrayal of the founding purpose of this nation, which is “love of liberty,” “love for country,” and love the people of Liberia.

The opposition politician alleged that the current governance structure is a failure because it only serves the interests of those in positions of power instead of the plight of ordinary Liberians.

“It is a failure because it is a system that allows people in positions of power to use our government for their own benefit or take state resources for their personal use with impunity. It is a failure because it is a system that makes the presidency serve as an autocrat, an authoritarian, a “semi-god,” or a Caesar that demands to be hailed even by those who detest him or her. It is a failure because it is a system that allows government officials to fight for honorable names rather than honorable”.
