The Impact Institute, a group organized to provide basic life-changing information and a good citizenship approach for Liberians, has embarked on a four-day capacity-building training for over eight hundred women and girls in two of Liberia’s populated slums, particularly West Point and New Kru Town.

The training, which is currently taking place in West Point, aims to develop, train, and boost the capacity of young female entrepreneurs in small-holder business administration management, health, and sanitation, above all good citizenship and self-reliance.

The four-day program is designed in two segments each; the first two days of the symposium, which is ongoing in West Point, will culminate on Wednesday, June 27, 2023, with four hundred participants, while the last segment will begin on Thursday, June 28, and end on Friday with the same number of participants.

The first day of the program focused on topics including Building self-esteem and confidence and success in life, sanitation and healthcare, and a productive community. While the last day of the symposium seeks to address Building and sustaining a small business and good governance and citizenship,

Speaking in an interview with a journalist following the climax of day one of the symposium in West Point, Impact Institute President Dr. Rudy Bropleh said that the symposium is intended to provide empowerment to the community, teaching, and information to enable Liberia to raise a productive society and a stronger economy.

According to him, they have decided to choose those various topics for the mentioned slum communities in order to open their eyes and strengthen their self-confidence to fight for their destinies in making good decisions in business and community.

We are trying to help people so that they can help themselves. We are doing this to enable our people, especially women, and girls, to make the right choices for business growth and society’s betterment. We are excited to be in West Point and New Kru Town. If you give somebody a cup of rice, they can’t eat it the whole day, but when you teach them how to farm, they will be productive forever, Dr. Bropleh concluded.

Meanwhile, expressing appreciation and gratitude to Impact Institute and its partners for the organization, two of the participants, Kaidu Kamara and Ms. Precious Baffoe, said that they are gratified to have been part of the training, describing it as rewarding and eye-opening.

According to them, what they have learned about self-esteem and confidence are things that they have never heard before, especially when it comes to being patient and strategic in planning goals and purposes for life.

We are excited to be in this program today. We want to thank the Impact Institute and its partners for this initiative. It’s rewarding and eye-opening. Today, we have learned that keeping our environment clean and healthy is not just the government’s work but all of ours. We hope this training will be taken to other communities so that others can put their lives on the right path, they noted.

He said that the impact training is four days, two days in West Point, and two days in New Kru Town.

It will cover topics including Building Self-esteem, confidence, and success in life. Sanitation, healthcare, and a productive community: the last day will focus on How to build and sustain small businesses, good governance, and citizenship.
