The Women’s Situation Room (WSR) says it is concerned about the utterances coming from the Unity Party (UP) press conference held Thursday, October 12, 2023 at their campaign headquarter, Gbangay Town, Airfield, Monrovia, where the partisans were told that they should go and celebrate after the officers of the party announced that according to their tally sheets, they have won a one round victory.

WSR says its concern is basically about the fact that NEC has announced only 6.66% of the actual votes cast (392 of 5,890 polling places) which cannot determine the winner of this Presidential and Legislative Elections.

“Therefore, to tell their partisans to go out and celebrate is premature and inconsistent with the Farmington Declaration and will be seen as provocation to other political parties who are contending, and will bring their constituents into the streets to cause confusion and violence.”

The Women’s Situation Room says it is against any type of violence and call on all political parties including the exuberant Unity Party to cease and desist from coming out on the streets with any kind of celebration and to wait until NEC can announce the final results.

At the same time, the WSR is urging the NEC to speed up the information and announcement of the results.

“The Women’s Situation Room remains committed to encourage everyone in their capacity to maintain the peace and order now, and after the final count has been announced.”
