-Lofa Police reports on the reported discovery of ballot boxes in the county

Following Monday’s report of discovery of ballot boxes in the possession of supporters of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Police in Lofa say supporters of the Unity Party that made the allegation, have not been able to provide any evidence.
Over the 24 hours, Police in Foya statutory district have been probing the manhandling of several CDCians, believed to be poll watchers on election eve.
Supporters of the opposition Unity Party on Monday afternoon beat on several poll watchers allegedly deployed by helicopter from the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) on the eve of election in Foya, Lofa County, accusing them of transporting pre-marked ballot papers into the country.
Women Voices News paper Lofa County correspondent Mason Kollie couldn’t confirmed that a helicopter brought pre marked ballot papers in , but he however confirmed that several CDCians believed to be poll workers were severely beaten by UP supporters.
When contacted, Foya statutory district Police Commander, mr. Soko Konneh, confirmed that the poll watchers were beaten, and therefore police have to take them to the police depot for protective custody after they were severely beaten.
He said they were later released to a trusted official of the CDC for medical attention. He mentioned that the men were accused of bringing in ballot boxes with pre-marked papers, but no evidence has been provided.
“They said they saw ballot boxes, but they have not been able to provide any evidence,” he stated. Meanwhile, lastest information coming from the CDC officials says that those who were wounded are responding to treatment while investigation continues.
