AS A LOT of Liberians might still not believe, former Liberian President George Weah, joined by his wife, Madam Clar Weah, and their team, reportedly faced a surprising halt in accessing the newly revamped VIP lounge at Roberts International Airport.

THIS ALLEGED ACTION, purportedly mandated by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, has made us astonished as we believe it hints at a worrisome direction the current government might be taking.

THE VIP LOUNGE at Roberts International Airport was revamped and inaugurated by George Weah in December 2023, shortly before his tenure as president concluded. The unveiling of the upgraded facility was intended to signify progress toward modernization and enhanced services for esteemed visitors and dignitaries.

NEVERTHELESS, IT WAS reported on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, that Mr. Weah and his delegation were instructed to utilize the old VIP lounge rather than the new one upon their arrival at the airport.

IN A FACEBOOK post post-arrival at Roberts International Airport (RIA), former presidential aide Sekou Kalasco disclosed the unsettling incident, stating, “Troubling sign! A call from the above denied President Weah of using the VIP Lounge!”

IN RESPONSE TO the accusation, Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana dismissed the claim as false on her official Facebook page, stating, “Former President George Weah was never denied access to the VIP Lounge at the Airport! In fact, he was welcomed with open arms.”

CONTRARILY, AND AS per what we discovered, former President George Weah and his team were visibly spotted at the old VIP Lounge at Roberts International Airport (RIA) upon arrival and throughout their time at the airport.

MADAM FOFANA LATER reiterated, “We have a government to run. We will not be in the business of responding to baseless propaganda! Liberia has 1 President and JNB is the Man! We will not be distracted!”

WE BELIEVE THIS trend if instigated by the executive, is an awkward means of treating a former president, as he remains an executive as long as he lives.

WITH THIS, WE admonish the executive to make the needed clarity, as it places an indescribable stain on Mr. Boakai’s political career.
