-Joins Global Campaign on 16 Days Of Activism

As the Association of Female Lawyers of Liberia (AFELL) joins the global campaign on the 16 Days Activism against Based Violence (GBV) to eliminate violence against women, the President of the organization says they stand ready and prepare to institute firm actions to eradicate all forms of violence against women.
Attorney Philomena Williams, President of AFELL made the statement on December 5, 2023 at a one-day training workshop for law enforcement officers on the Domestic Violence Act (DVA) and the referral pathway as a response to eradicating domestic violence in Liberia.
Atty. Williams said “AFELL emphatically states that we will not compromised violence. We have worked for over 29 years, advocating to eliminate all forms of violence against women and children in Liberia, and have condemned compromising abuse and violence by family members and community leaders. With God’s grace, we will continue our advocacy until no woman or child is abused.”
AFELL along with Community Health Initiatives (CHI), Liberia Association of Psychosocial Services with support the Danish Institute Against Torture (DIGNITY) conducted the workshop to train law enforcement officers on the DWA in order to bring relief for the victims of domestic violence in Liberia and to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
The training was intended to strengthen and empower law enforcement professionals to protect members of the communities around Liberia from harm to be diligent in their skills and adapt new approaches to enforce the Act effectively in cases of domestic violence.
