-Calls for Calm Amid Investigation

Monrovia, Liberia – The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), Major General Davidson F. Forleh, has strongly condemned the unauthorized attack and use of force by unidentified military personnel against a police officer, urging the public to remain calm as an investigation into the incident is underway.

The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the SD Cooper Road Junction in Paynesville. According to reports, unidentified AFL personnel allegedly assaulted a police officer under circumstances that remain unclear. The attack, which was not sanctioned by the AFL High Command, has raised concerns about the conduct of military personnel and the potential for escalating tensions between the AFL and the Liberia National Police (LNP).

In response to the incident, senior officers from both the AFL and LNP swiftly arrived at the scene to de-escalate the situation and restore order. The AFL High Command emphasized that the actions of the unidentified personnel were carried out independently and do not reflect the values or directives of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

In a statement released late Wednesday, Major General Forleh assured the public that the AFL is working closely with national security authorities to ensure the situation remains under control. He reiterated the AFL’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Liberia, describing the institution as a “Force for Good.”

To address the incident, the AFL has launched an immediate investigation led by the Provost Marshal and the Legal Affairs Unit. The probe aims to establish the facts surrounding the attack and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

The AFL High Command has called for calm among the public and urged citizens to refrain from speculation or actions that could further inflame tensions. The statement emphasized the importance of allowing the investigation to proceed unimpeded to ensure justice and prevent similar incidents in the future.

As Liberia grapples with this unsettling development, the AFL has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the rule of law and protecting the safety and security of all citizens.
