The appointment of Mr. Alex C. Grant by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai as Superintendent-designate of Grand Gedeh County has angered mass protest action, as several Citizens residing in the county have expressed opposition and vote of no confidence in the presidential nominee.

The Citizens including the youth, women grouping and elders council on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, in the county threaten a massive protest action against Grand Gedeh County superintendent-designate Alex C. Grant.

The aggrieved Citizens, phoning in on local radio shows in the county vowed to resist the president’s nomination because Mr. Grant doesn’t have a good relationship with residents of the county.

They recounted that the superintendent designate was one of those who went on the radio to accuse the citizens of Grand Gedeh of using a country devil to take away the life of Alfred Dunner, the late election magistrate.

According to them, the appointment of Alex Grant should be revoked immediately without delay, stating that the failure of President Boakai to do the needful,  the county will witness what they called a county-wide protest.

“Alex Grant cannot be over our county because he does not know how to talk to people. Mr. Grant does not have a good relationship with the people of the county and has in the past denigrated the culture and tradition of the locals” the Citizens stated.

President Joseph Nyumah Boakai on February 19, 2024, through the official Facebook page of the Executive Mansion designated former Representative of the County, Mr. Alex C. Grant to serve as superintendent in the county.

However, speaking in a telephone conversation with this paper from the County, Mr. Kai Gee, Deputy Campaign Spokesman for the Unity Party (UP) 2023 Grand Gedeh County campaign chapter said that it’s very saddening that President Boakai will designate somebody who is not in right standing with the people of the county.

He alleged that the former Grand Gedeh lawmaker was an academic fraudster who did not hold any university degree.

“A serious-minded county like Grand Gedeh is not ready to honor people or leaders who have character issues. Mr. Alex Grant was alleged to have acquired an undergraduate degree in sociology from Ibadan University of Nigeria in 2005, which according to investigation was proven false as the Ibadan University of Nigeria in no uncertain term, refuted the former lawmaker’s claims in a communication addressed to the inquiring of journalists” he stated.

Consequently, he added that Mr. Grant was expelled by the Cuttington University Graduate School and the University of Liberia Graduate Schools for lying under oaths.

“The offense is a third-degree felony and made a false statement. Mr. Grant is an academic fraudster who does not deserve to be the head of the county. Currently, Alex Grant cannot step his feet on the grounds of Konobo District, one of the Three Electoral Districts of the County for his alleged involvement in the death of Alfred Dunner. How will he lead a County where he cannot visit some parts?” He argued.

Also speaking to this paper, Rose Geeplay, said that they are prepared to ensure that the superintendent designate is prevented from entering the county upon confirmation by the Liberian senate.

“We will not sit here for someone who does not represent the interest of the ordinary people to take over this county and we want Boakai to reconsider his decision the citizens cautioned” Ms. Geeplay added.
