The Monrovia City Court Stipendiary magistrate  Ben Barco has granted a personal recognizance bond against the release of Liberian controversial political commentator  Nayapougma Yeazeahn, who’s famously known as Prophet Key.

A personal recognizance bond, or a “PR” bond, is a bond that allows the accused to be released from jail without having to pay a financial sum. The offender has to promise to appear in court on a certain date.

Yeazeahn was brought before the court on Thursday February 15, on charges of criminal coercion, menacing and disorderly conduct.

He was complained to the court by Liberia cultural ambassador Juli Endee, who informed the court that during one of his podcast, Prophet Key accused her of having sexual affair with former president George Weah, and other government officials including Unity Party secretary General Amos Tweh, to retain her post.

She further informed the court that he threatened that he will ensure that she never has the opportunity to work in any other government in  her lifetime, something that, according to her, places her  in fear.

Ambassador Endee, added that the defendant did it with the intent and purpose to bring her to public ridicule and shame, stating that the act of the defendant is criminal, illegal, and unconstitutional.

During the court argument , prosecution lawyers asked the court to issue a writ of Nel-exist Republica on the defendant that he is a flat rate and can leave the country anytime.

They further informed the court that since it is the first appearance of the defendant he should be made to answer to the writ so as to indicate whether he’s guilty or not guilty to the writ.

They also want the defendant to file a criminal appearance bond as failure to comply with the court he should be reminded at the Monrovia city court.

For their part the defense lawyers, pray the court continues so as to allow the defendant to bill his criminal appearance bond in keeping with law.

The defendant’s lawyer’s plea is based on the fact that criminal cases are to not be heard during the afternoon hours as the defendant was brought under the canopy of the court after 3 pm.

Meanwhile, the Monrovia city court magistrate Ben Barco, granted the defense lawyers’ motion by extending the case to a later date with issuance of a notice of assignment.

It can be recalled The Monrovia City Magisterial Court issued an arrest warrant for Nayaborqua Oldpa Yeazeahn (AKA Prophet Key).

The writ reads, “You are hereby commanded to arrest the living body of Nayaborqua Oldpa Yeazeahn (AKA Prophet Key) to be identified, and forthwith bring him before the Monrovia City Court, Temple of Justice Building, Montserrado County, to answer to the Charge of Criminal Coercion, Menacing, and Disorderly Conduct, based upon the oath and complaint of the Republic of Liberia by and through Julie Endee.”

In a writ issued on Monday, February 5, 2024, Ambassador Endee complained against Prophet Key that in the month of December 2023, Prophet Key, in a video podcast published on social media, willfully, intentionally and purposefully informed the public that she is a prostitute and has slept with former President Charles Taylor and the past President Weah to solicit job, and she is currently sleeping with the Unity Party Secretary, Amos Tweh, to maintain her position as Liberia’s Cultural Ambassador.

The complaint added that Prophet Key threatened that he would ensure that she never has the opportunity to work in any other government in her lifetime in Liberia, thereby placing her in fear.
