…Says He Was One of Liberia’s Best

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has venerated the life and service of Sumo G. Kupee, former Senator of Lofa County. The state funeral of the fallen statesman was held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
During the said event, (unofficial) funeral, President Joseph Nyumah Boakai described the death of the former Senator as a great loss to the people of Lofa and Liberia at large. He asserted that the former Senator was one of Liberia’s best.
“He was one of Liberia’s best sons. The people of Lofa and Liberia have suffered a great loss. We lost a great son and a great leader in our community, and the. Lutheran Church has lost a great member and leader”
President Boakai aspired that the passing of the former Senator of Lofa County would serve as a magnetic field that would further unify the people of Lofa and Liberia.
He added that the fallen senator was a nationalist who fought for unity and betterment of Liberia. “We hope that his passing will help to unite us more to see the value in people, the better we work together, we hold together and see the good in each other, the better this country will be.”
He stated that as senator of Lofa County, the former Senator of Lofa represented the county and fought for national development. “The workings of the legislature is not just the individual legislator, but a person who is able to represent the county and lobby for national development. Sumo was one of those who represented the county and thesis country very well.”
Meanwhile, the Liberia National Legislature, especially members of the 52nd and 53rd national legislature through the ProtemPre of the 53rd National Legislature, now Senator of Grand Bassa County, Gbehzongar Milton Finley intimated that the workings of the former Senator of Lofa County were not just a representation of Lofa, but a national developmentalist.
Senator Finley recorded that, as a nationalist, the former Senator introduced the bill that brought about the act that established the Liberia Revenue Authority which is now bringing forth national revenue.
He added that following the 2008 national census, the fallen Senator introduced a bill that established the threshold that formulated additional districts, thereby reaching the House of Representatives to seventy-three seats.
At the same time, the Liberia Petroleum Refineries Company mourned the passing of the former Senator as one who brought about transformation at the LPRC.
The LPRC in their tribute added that, as managing director of the petroleum company, erected a modern petroleum storage tank that cost US 30M. The fallen Lofa County Senator will be laid to rest on Friday, November 15, 2024.
