Monrovia – Just a day ahead of Valentine’s Day, a day that has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of love, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. effective immediately, suspended Madam Emma Metieh-Glassco, Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NAFAA), as recommended by the NAFAA Board of Directors pending further investigation by the Ministry of Justice and the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC).

In a communication to Mrs. Glassco, the President outlined the Board’s resolution, which calls for her suspension due to managerial and financial inefficiencies. This recommendation is by Section 3.9.2 of the Act that established the Authority.

Furthermore, the President also referenced a communication from the Office of the Ombudsman, which recommended Mrs.

Glassco’s suspension and investigation are based on allegations of insulting behavior. This conduct, considered unbecoming of a public official, was reportedly exhibited during an official investigation meeting. The Ombudsman’s recommendation is based on Section 11.10 of the Code of Conduct Act.

President Boakai has urged the suspended Director General to fully cooperate with the investigations to address the concerns raised.

From Dennis to Glassco

Glassco’s suspension comes days after the suspension of the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), Madam Rostalyn Suakoko Dennis, and a day after the suspension of over 400 other appointed officials.

President Boakai suspended Madam Rostalyn Suakoko Dennis on February 8, 2025. The President’s decision followed a resolution of the Board of Directors of NOCAL recommending Madam Dennis’ suspension and an investigation into the allegations.

Madam Dennis has been ordered to turn over all government properties in her possession to the interim team headed by Mr. Fabian Michael Lai, NOCAL’s Vice President for Operations, who will assume interim oversight of the Company’s operations.

The Government of Liberia said it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance in all sectors, particularly in the management of the country’s natural resources. An investigation of the allegations against Madam Dennis has been ordered.
