-Issues Executive Order #146

Executive Mansion, Monrovia– In a move to enhance access to clean drinking water and improve sanitation services across the country, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has issued Executive Order #146, exempting the Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC) from customs duties on selected essential items.
This Executive Order follows the expiration of Executive Order #127 and reaffirms the Government’s commitment to ensuring a reliable water supply and efficient sewage management to protect public health and prevent disease outbreaks. The exemption is aimed at reducing operational costs for LWSC, thereby keeping tariffs affordable for the Liberian people.
Under Executive Order #146, the following items are now exempt from customs duties:
• Diesel fuel for operations and production
• Rotatable and consumable spare parts for operations
• Low-lift and high-lift pumps for water treatment plants
• Water treatment chemicals and chlorinators
• Laboratory apparatus for water treatment facilities (White Plains and outstations)
• Heavy-duty equipment, including water and sewer trucks, asphalt cutters, jackhammers, leak detectors, valves, pressure sewer cleaners, and high-pressure assorted pipes and fittings
• Flow and water meters
• Heavy and light-duty vehicles
• Generators
Recognizing sanitation as a critical component of the Government’s ARREST Agenda, President Boakai emphasized that this measure is essential to sustaining adequate water supply and effectively controlling sewage overflow in Monrovia and its environs.
“This Executive Order is a testament to my administration’s dedication to improving public health through clean water and proper sanitation. By easing the financial burden on LWSC, we are ensuring that every Liberian has access to safe drinking water while also strengthening our sewer systems,” President Boakai stated.
The Executive Order takes immediate effect and will serve as a critical tool in the Government’s broader strategy for national development and public welfare.
