Monrovia – The Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) convenes its 118th Annual General Assembly today at the Temple of Justice, featuring prominent attorney Cllr. Charlyne M. Brumskine as a keynote speaker addressing the critical theme “Strengthening Accountability in the Justice Sector.”

The distinguished jurist, managing partner of C.M.B. Law Group, and former vice presidential candidate will deliver what organizers anticipate to be a landmark address on combating corruption within Liberia’s legal system. Her speech comes amid heightened scrutiny of judicial integrity across West Africa.

“Selecting Cllr. Brumskine reflects our commitment to elevating women’s leadership in legal reform,” said LNBA President Cllr. Bonor M. Varmah in his invitation letter. The Bar Association, established by the legislative act in 1907, represents Liberia’s judiciary, legal practitioners, and law students.

Today’s opening session will feature:  Special remarks by Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, Continuing legal education workshops on ethical practice, Policy discussions on improving judicial transparency

The two-day assembly brings together hundreds of legal professionals as the LNBA pursues its dual mandate of enhancing legal education while strengthening international bar association partnerships.

Cllr. Brumskine’s selection carries particular significance given her unique professional pedigree. The Barnard College and Howard University Law School graduate – daughter of late Liberty Party founder Charles Brumskine – has emerged as one of Liberia’s most influential legal voices since her tenure as Collaborating Political Parties’ 2023 vice standard bearer.

“Her address will challenge us to confront uncomfortable truths about corruption’s corrosive impact,” noted Supreme Court Associate Justice Joseph Nagbe, who plans to attend.

The conference occurs as Liberia implements new judicial accountability measures, including recently passed requirements for judges to publicly disclose financial assets. Cllr. Brumskine’s address is expected to address these reforms while proposing additional safeguards.
