-As it saves Hundreds of Thousands For Gov’t

The Civil Service Agency (CSA) has identified and addressed financial leakages in three government spending institutions, resulting in significant savings for the government.

Through personal verification and headcount audits, the CSA has taken action to eliminate fraudulent practices and inefficiencies in the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Liberia Institute for Public Administration, and the National Coordinating Review Mechanism.

At the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the CSA discovered 40 individuals receiving salaries without actually working, totaling 18,539 USD per month. These individuals have been removed from the payroll, resulting in immediate cost savings. Additionally, 81 employees who were absent for more than 8 days without pay have been suspended for one month, saving the government 36,881 USD.

The Liberia Institute for Public Administration (LIPA) saw 28 employees dismissed for consistently not showing up for work, despite receiving salaries. This move will save the government 17,597 USD monthly. Furthermore, 30 individuals from LIPA have been suspended without pay for failing to report to work, resulting in savings of 17,215 USD for the government.

In the National Coordinating Review Mechanism, 12 individuals were removed from the payroll due to a lack of evidence of their employment during a specific period. These “ghost” employees, identified during physical verification and headcount processes, were costing the government 25,708 USD monthly.

The CSA’s actions aim to address financial irregularities and ensure that government resources are used efficiently. It says by cracking down on fraudulent practices and holding accountable those responsible for financial mismanagement, the government is set to save a total of 117,016 USD monthly and 488,816 USD annually across the three institutions.
