-Senator Chea Critiques Sen. Dillons Apology

By Jerromie S. Walters

Monrovia, Liberia – In a pointed commentary on the recent apology issued by Senator A. Darius Dillon, Senator Cllr. Augustine S. Chea has voiced strong criticism, accusing Dillon of insincerity and political deception. Chea’s remarks highlight a broader concern regarding the nature of truthfulness in political discourse.

Quoting the philosopher Hannah Arendt, Chea emphasized, “Truthfulness has never been counted among political virtues, and lies have always been regarded as justifiable tools in political dealings.” He argued that this sentiment reflects a troubling reality in politics, where the pursuit of political goals often overshadows the importance of honesty.

Chea specifically called out Dillon for his perceived hypocrisy in critiquing President Joseph Boakai’s use of a private aircraft, a point he previously condemned when it was employed by former President George Weah. “Senator Dillon does not have the spine to criticize President Boakai as he did with former President Weah,” Chea charged. “Instead, he resorts to deceit, claiming he was wrong for his earlier criticisms.”

The senator characterized Dillon’s apology as a disingenuous maneuver aimed at manipulating public perception following a wave of disapproval from constituents. “This is not an honest apology; it is a form of deception and political chicanery,” Chea asserted. “There is a clear lack of sincerity and genuine remorse in his words.”

Chea concluded that Dillon’s apology should be viewed as little more than a formality, a face-saving effort rather than a true acknowledgment of any wrongdoing. As the political landscape continues to evolve in Liberia, Chea’s remarks resonate with a call for greater accountability and integrity among public officials.
