The Sixteen President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Layli Maparyan has intimated that one of unavoidable things that is required to get the University of Liberia to regain its status amongst universities of the nation, Africa and the world is regularizing faculty pay by getting a comprehensive payroll that is void of corruption.

She stated that the payroll of the University of Liberia needs to be verified and cleaned up. Asserting that a cleaned payroll will make more money available. “Let’s position ourselves for some big important things that will inevitably be required to get this flagship University running on track to greatness.

The President added: “Regularizing faculty pay; starting with research about why pay-lapses occurred in the past and what we can do to prevent seminar instances in the future.

As part of this process, the payroll itself needs to be verified and cleaned up.

A clean payroll will make more money available.”

Dr. Layli Maparyan who on Friday, January 10, 2024, was inducted into office as the third foreign (US-Citizen) President of the University of Liberia, vowed to deliver on the objectives of her appointment as President of the University.

However, added that the University of Liberia can only attain its true objective through collective efforts. “As the new President of the University of Liberia, I will stair the University to its true destiny. It takes all of us to make the University great again.”

In furtherance, Dr. Maparyan added that she will bring forth all of her experience and education to the University. She added that her presidency at the University will be centered on the pillows of “Education, Effectiveness, Efficiency, Excellence, and Efforts.”

Dr. Layli Maparyan continued by stating that since she arrived in the country, her sense of the urgency of certain things has increased and inclined her to add some actions to her first hundred days.

She added that some actions of her first hundred days are to ensure collaborative effort amongst students, teachers, and staff, to keep the University running. To regularize the academic calendar of the University, improve sanitation, and as well as raise funds for the University.

Moreover, the state-run university President noted that a healthy and functioning University has many income. “Since I arrived in the country about a week ago, my sense of the urgency of certain things has increased and now I’m inclined to add some actions to my first hundred days. I see these as antidotes to get UL back up and running after a long and difficult year. I have planned to regularize the UL academic calendar so that it is predictable and dependable. I will begin fun raising immediately. Starting with the contacts I have in the States and bringing in researchers we need to accomplish our goal. A healthy and functioning University has many income.”
