-Following Police and Protesters Clash Up Capitol Hill

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has called for restraint to both Liberian protesters and the National Police following Tuesday’s protest that led to several arrests, in Monrovia. The organization expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions in the capital city.

In a statement, ECOWAS emphasized the importance of adhering to the rule of law and upholding democratic principles as outlined in the Liberian constitution. They believe that such adherence is crucial for fostering good governance and ensuring a peaceful society.

Additionally, ECOWAS has urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the fire that occurred at the Capitol building during the morning hours of the clashes. They have called for the findings of this investigation to be made public to ensure transparency and accountability.

ECOWAS reiterated the need for genuine reconciliation among all parties involved to maintain sustainable peace and stability in Liberia and the broader West African region. The organization says it remains committed to supporting efforts that promote dialogue and understanding in the face of ongoing challenges.
