Monrovia, Liberia – The Chinese Embassy in Liberia has donated 2,000 motorcycle helmets to the Liberia National Police (LNP) as part of an initiative aimed at enhancing road safety and regulating motorcyclist behavior on Monrovia’s Main Street.

During the donation ceremony, the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Yon Chengwu, emphasized the significance of the contribution, stating that it reflects the Chinese government’s commitment to collaborating with the Liberian government to improve traffic safety measures.

“Traffic safety is a concern that affects every family in Liberia,” Ambassador Chengwu remarked. “The safety of one individual contributes to the happiness of the entire family, making traffic safety a collective interest.”

He underscored the importance of prioritizing safety and prevention, asserting that a focus on safety is essential for enhancing the quality of life. “There is no room for compromise when it comes to safety; we must care for and adhere to the laws governing traffic regulations,” he added.

Ambassador Chengwu called for a nationwide awareness campaign to promote road and traffic safety, indicating that such efforts are crucial for the well-being of all citizens. He noted that the Chinese government’s donations align with President Joseph N. Boakai’s agenda, which prioritizes road safety as a vital component of national development.

“Improving road traffic safety not only supports economic growth but also ensures the well-being and security of individuals, reinforcing the rule of law in Liberia,” the Ambassador stated. He highlighted the necessity of public awareness campaigns for motorcyclists, emphasizing that helmets are an essential measure for protecting individuals on the road.

In response to the donation, Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Gregory O. W. Coleman, expressed gratitude for the helmets, recognizing them as a significant contribution to road traffic safety. “This donation focuses on safety measures, and we are thankful to the people of China for their generous support in enhancing peace and security in Liberia,” he said.

Inspector General Coleman noted that the LNP has received numerous donations, but this particular contribution stands out due to its focus on safeguarding lives. He reiterated the LNP’s commitment to enforcing helmet use among motorcyclists and encouraged officers to approach enforcement with kindness and understanding.
