– For District Leaders, Private Institutions, Farmers in Todee  

The Foundation for the Empowerment of Rural Dwellers (FERD) has conducted a one-day rigorous Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Financing workshop in Todee District Montserrado County with District leaders, private institutions, and farmers. 

The Workshop was conducted on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, in Nyen Town, under the WASH Governance, Financing Advocacy Project, which is implemented by FERD with Support from WaterAid -Liberia.

Providing the overview of the workshop, Madam, Yuku Ford, Program Manager for FERD   indicated that the gathering was intended for the people to be knowledgeable of their rights on WASH.

“To know your rights, you have to demand, you have to push forward to tell the people that is your right, so they need to get it from the national government, “she said.

Madam Ford further emphasized that it is vital for the people to ensure that those WASH rights are placed on the national agenda of the County Development Fund so that the district will have an impact.

“Today we are having this workshop so that people can understand that WASH is a human rights issue so that they can work with their Representative, their district leaders so that they can put WASH agenda during the county sitting,” she said.

She asserted that the community inhabitants need to understand the issue of the corporate social responsibility of those companies within their districts, concerning WASH.

FERD Program Manager used the event to extol WaterAid -Liberia for their support given for the implantation of such a vital component of the WASH Sector stressing that WASH governance, financing, and advocacy projects are key to upholding transparency and accountability.  

 Also speaking, Tolbeeta Township Commissioner Daniel Pabie described the initiative as vital to the growth and development of their district. 

He said with such understanding it will help the inhabitants to know the right path to take in seeking for the government and companies to provide support for WASH, mostly water and toilet.

“We have been having WASH Meetings but this time around, we are having a different format we will have better wash activities in Todee than ever before because we will be inviting those farmers, those companies, those private institutions, the Representative for them to contribute, the county sitting there should be budget for WASH, I think Todee will be free,” he said.

Mr. Pabie further committed the local leadership of Todee to their support to FERD and WaterAid in achieving the objective of the transformative project.  

The one-day event was grace by farmers, traditional chiefs, and those of the educational sectors including Health, women groupings, and youths among others.
