NIMBA COUNTY — One man (Nushu Quaye)
is reported dead, and another is on the run after a fistfight between two men on Monday in Vianini Camp, Yekepa, District #3, Nimba County.
Police in the area say a man identified as Nushu Quaye died from injuries suffered during a fistfight with his neighbor, Elijah Dennis.
According to the police, the man was pronounced dead Monday before arrival at the AML Hospital in Yekepa. The hospital medical examiner, Duo Zeambo with license number 10969 announced the victim dead.
The deceased man, who was reportedly beaten very badly, was rushed to the hospital to determine the cause of death. However, the hospital medical examiner’s office ruled that his death was caused by blunt-force trauma due to an assault by another person.
The police said, that at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, January 13, they received a call from one Jacob Dennis who reported that his brother Elijah Dennis, now suspect, and the deceased engaged in a fistfight, leaving the suspect to kill the deceased.
According to the county police report, a team of joint security, including PSU responded to the scene to calm tension amid reports of an angry mob in revenge.
During further inquiry, one Prince Gono believed to be a friend of the deceased told the police investigation that the suspect was in an argument with someone different when the deceased intervened to make peace.
Eyewitnesses at the same time explained that while the deceased was negotiating peace, Elijah hit him with a blow, thus sparking his anger to retaliate.
Witnesses testified that both men immediately engaged in a fistfight, leaving a disturbing history in their community.
According to them, during the fistfight, the deceased Nushu Quaye escaped the scene to a shop for what they term the “Sake of Peace”.
They further added that while he had gone standing in a shop to explain to his friends what had transpired, suspect Dennis unknown to everyone, rushed on and hit the deceased with a 2-by-2 timber plank on his head.
The action subsequently caused Quate to collapse and fall to the ground, bringing to an end his life journey on earth. The incident is believed to be the first fatal occurrence in the mining community of Arcelor Mittal-Liberia.
Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police, Nimba County Detachment has launched a vigorous manhunt warrant search for Elijah Dennis to face full judgment.
