Amid media reports that the former Chief Superintendent of Police of Sierra Leone was being held in Liberia, the Liberian  Government has confirmed that it has turned over to the Sierra Leonean government Mr. Mohammed Toure also known as “Sankoh Paul Alimamy” and “Yeate Yeate”. 

As disclosed by a MICAT release, Mr. Toure was apprehended in Monrovia by Liberian security forces at the request of the Sierra Leonean authorities on the allegation of helping plan subversive activities intended to unseat the Government of President Julius Maada Bio. 

The statement added that following preliminary investigations in Liberia, and given the assurances of the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone that the rights of the accused will be respected, including his rights to a free, fair and speedy trial, the Liberian Government decided it was appropriate to hand over Mr. Toure to the Government of Sierra Leone as requested by the authorities in that country. 

The Government of Liberia says Mr. Toure’s handover to the Sierra Leonean Government is in keeping with the laws of Liberia and the 1986 Non-Aggression Security Treaty entered into by the Governments of Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. 

Meanwhile, the Government has given no proof that Mr. Tourewas given due process prior to his extradition as sources closed to the Liberia National Police confirmed that the former Police Chief was turned over at 10 PM Liberian time on Monday. 

Sierra Leone Police Authority confirmed that they have in their custody the former Chief Superintendent of Police.

It can be reference that in the ongoing extradition investigation involving Mohammed Yaetey Uray, the accused coup leader of the fail-coup de’at in neighboring Seria Leone, the Ministry of Justice has prayed the court to issue a Writ of Subpoena DucesTecum on GSM company in Liberia, to provide the call-log of Mohammed Yaetey Uray.

A subpoena duces tecum is a type of subpoena or request that requires the witness to produce a document or documents pertinent to a proceeding.

In the communication issued on Monday, August 7, 2023, the Ministry requested the court to issue Subpoena seeking detailed information on the call log on Cell NO. 0880403484 as well as name, photo, address, cell ID, Imel, text messages and location of the subscriber.

“The Ministry of Justice by & thru the office of the county Attorney for Montserrado County most respectfully prays Your Honour and Court for the issuance of Writ of Subpoena DucesTecum to be served on LONESTAR GSM Corporation located on Tubman Boulevard to provide detail call log on Cell NO. 0880403484 as well as name, photo, address, cell ID, Imeitext messages and location of the subscriber.”

In the subpoena, the call log requested for is from the period June 1, 2023 to August 4, 2023, with the sore intent to assist the Liberia National Police to conclude it’s ongoing investigation in the extradiction case of Mohammed Yaetey Uray.

It can be recalled, early August 2023, the Liberian embassy in Seria Loane informed the ministry of foreign back in Liberia that there was a failed coup attempt on the president of sierra loane.

Since then, there have been major arrests of people believed to be involved with the coup attempt, as others have fled to Liberia and other neighboring countries.

Meanwhile,  in the request of the writ of Subpoena DucesTecumby the ministry of justice was ignited by a request from the Liberia National Police through deputy commissioner of police, and head of Interpool – Liberia National Police DCP. Theresa 3. Grandoe to the ministry of justice to subpoena the GSM company to provide the call log for Mohammed Yaetey Uray, the accused failed coup leader.

“We herewith request a writ of Subpoena to be served on LheOrange G5M Conmunicatian Company in order to make available a calllógs on the above GSM numbers from the period of June 1, to August 4, 2023, before and after the incident where-these calls Were translated and terminated.” The Interpoolrequest for Subpoena DucesTecum started.

The communication from the Interpol Division of the Liberia National Police revealed that the alleged subversion or treason case allegedly occurred on July 29, 2023, in the Republic of Sierra Leone, stating that those involved are within the borders of Liberia.

“According to the Sierra Leonean investigative documents, séveral SierraLeonean nationals who have organized and supported the subversion are staying into Liberian borders precisely the Capital, Monrovia,” Interpol stated.
