Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) and the Liberia National Police (LNP), has issued a strong warning against the hazardous practice of selling petroleum products in mayonnaise jars and jerry cans on streets and highways.

This alarming trend not only violates Liberia’s Public Safety Law but also poses serious risks to lives and property. The Ministry has underscored that flammable substances like gasoline and diesel must be sold and handled in accordance with established safety regulations.

In a statement endorsed by Colonel G. W. Barvoul, Director of the LNFS, and approved by Minister and Attorney General Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, the Ministry has ordered all individuals and filling stations involved in this unsafe practice to halt immediately. Additionally, all tankers transporting petroleum products are mandated to deliver exclusively to government-approved filling stations.

Effective January 15, 2025, a complete ban on the sale of flammable liquids in mayonnaise jars and jerry cans will be enforced. Those who violate this directive, including both individuals and filling stations, will face arrest and confiscation of their products.

The government urges the public to adhere to this directive to safeguard against potential disasters stemming from the improper handling of flammable substances.
