-On “Improving Workplace Efficiency”
New knowledge, motivation, refined skills and appreciations are just a few of the benefits received from the Grand Kru Technical College Three-day successful workshop held from April 11-12, 2024 at the Barclayville Central High School Auditorium in Green Hill Community, Barclayville City.
The opening ceremony was officially addressed by the Chairman of the Grand Kru Legislative Caucus, Senator Numene T.H Bartekwa, who is also chairman, University of Liberia Board of Trustees The Grand Kru Senator was widely applauded for his words of motivation, encouragement and thoughtful.
The overview of the Thursday’s session was given by the Co-chair of the Grand Kru Technical College Board of Trustees, Associate Professor Dr Josephus M Gray, Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Liberia. He is also Sharda University in India Ambassador to the Republic of Liberia.
Several other stakeholders and officials of the county and the college delivered remarks. About 150 persons including faculty, staffs, administrators, student groups and other stakeholders of the county.
Planning, preparation and implementation greatly contributed to the success of the workshop held under the theme: Improving Workplace Efficiency: Train, Inspire and Equip. The workshop was intended to help craft a strong and positive future for Liberian students, the Grand Kru Technical College in Barclayville, Southeastern Liberia.
About 150 participants from Grand Kru, Maryland and Montserrado, particularly students, faculty, as well as representatives of traditional elders, civil society and women leadership were in attendance. The two-day academic session which geared towards quality teaching, learning and practical research provides a space for stakeholders of Grand Kru County especially academicians, professionals and students to come together to share practical and hand-on skills, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
The two days sessions was more than just exploring new teaching techniques and acquiring new academic knowledge, it’s was an transformative experience that shapes professional trajectory and standards in education in a profound ways. It was also designed towards remodeling the Technical College in the ways that reflects globally recognized institution.
Meanwhile, the workshop was facilitated by several academicans and professional Liberians including the Dean of the Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr Josephus M. Gray, who is also Sharda University in India Ambassador to the Republic of Liberia and son of Grand Kru County.
Other facilitators were the Vice Presidents for Administration and Academic Affairs, Mr. P..Dan Bestman and Rev. P. Tenenso Brohdonyen. Dr. Gray presented on the topic: Quality Teaching, Learning and Practical Research, and the Impact of a College’s standardized curricula, syllabi and faculty development. Other facilitators included the Administrator of Grand Kru Health Center, Dr. Wreh and the Grand Kru Chief Education Officer, Mr. Norwane Karmeih; to be followed by group presentations.
Dr. Wreh and.Mr. Norwane presented on the topics: Promoting Conflict Resolution at workplace and Classrooms Management Techniques and fostering professional environment. While Mr. Benjamin Bedell spoke on the topic: conflict Resolution at workplace.
The Grand Kru Technical College in 2023 transitioned from TVET status to a full Technical College and offers a Two-year Associate degree in Six Major Disciplines including Agriculture Technology, Education, Enginerring and Technology, Business, Natural Sciences and Heth Sciences. In the future, the college will transition to a Bachelor’s degree level. The College was established in February 2019 through an Act of the National Legislature of Liberia. The Board of Trustees of the Grand Kru Technical College was appointed by former President of Liberia, Dr. George Manneh Weah to give directions and formulate polices to move the institution forward.
The college is suited in Green Hill Community in Barclayville City, Grand Kru County. The faculty of the College including Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. degree holders with vast and professional success, expertise and experience in several fields of studies both in Liberia and abroad.
The college’s motto: “Enlightening Minds to Unlocking Potentials” while the college has a well structure both academic and administration organised and in placed. About 130 candidates were successful in the entrance exams administered by the college in Grand Kru and Maryland Counties. The 130 students will be joined by another group of students. The registration exercise will commence on Monday, 15 April 2024 while classes are expected to start April 30, 2024. The college is accredited by the National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE).
The offers a two-year Associate degree programs in Agriculture, Education, Engineering and Technology, Business, Natural Sciences and Health Sciences. Any student majoring in one-off the six disciplines must enroll and complete all the general courses including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Social Science, Mathematics, English and Literature, French, Kru or Grebo, Physical Education and Computer Science.
Currently, there are 22 qualified, competent and experienced faculty members including Bachelor, Master and Doctorate degree holders recruited from Montserrado and Maryland Counties. The faculty members were vetted and recruited through a transparent and opened process.
The faculty will be hosted in the college’s Guest House suited in the Green Hill Community, Barclayville City. While the college’s president will reside the in a property rented by administration of the institution. According to the faculty assignments and course schedule, the college runs 60 sections from Monday to Saturday, with classes running from 8am-4pm.
